ABOUT

Meet Fernanda

I was raised in the seaside paradise of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Graced on all sides with white, powdery beaches and lush, tropical mountains, it remains one of the most photographed locales in the world. I didn’t know it then, but I was destined to take my own fair share of photographs, only they wouldn’t be in my native city of Rio…

Fast forward 24 years and a chance meeting with an itinerant American expat during a Carnaval party on Copacabana Beach, and my future was about to unfold right before my eyes. After a whirlwind courtship, I was engaged to the future father of my two daughters Gabriella and Isadora. But any plans to return to his native USA were put on hold after we decided to take a detour to Buenos Aires, Argentina! Another sprawling, dynamic South American metropolis, Buenos Aires was to be our home for nearly 3 years! We invested in an apartment in the trendy suburb of Palermo which we would later use as a base for further travels in South America and beyond.

We were never satisfied being in one place for too long so not long after completing our renovation project, we decided to visit Patagonia (how I wish I had my Nikon there!!), Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Uruguay. The crown jewel of that South American trip, and my favorite travel destination to date, was the Peruvian Amazon Forest. Soon afterward, we were off to Austria, England, Belgium, Italy and Greece, including one of my favorite places, Crete.

Not long after returning from Europe, we were off again! This time to China in the run up to the 2008 Olympic Games. We spent time in Beijing (visited the Forbidden City & Great Wall of China), Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Gui Lin and several other more remote locations. It was an aggressive three week tour of China which took us from North to South and back again.

And while we thoroughly enjoyed our time and travels, the realization started to sink in that we had to get back to the US and put down some roots. And so in the Summer of 2007 we were married in Montrose, CO, ultimately settling in the Denver-area. Transitioning to life in the US wasn’t always easy, especially adapting to the changing seasons and this white stuff you call “snow”. In spite of my natural preference for warmer climes, I was falling in love with CO all the same.

I took up gainful employment as a Portuguese tutor, helping professionals gain a working knowledge of my native tongue. While this was very rewarding work, I still didn’t feel like this was my life’s one true calling. One morning, over a cup of coffee, I started looking over the pictures of our many travels and something occured to me: these pictures didn’t begin to do justice to these amazing places! That was it! Eureka! I was going to capture people, places and moments in such a way that they were credible and authentic in capturing the beauty and essence of the moment.

I started enrolling in every workshop I could find. Soon I was taking classes; honing my skills in the classroom as well as “in the wild”! It was slow going at first but as I sharpened my skills, I began to grow increasingly confident in my ability to do exactly what I had set out to do: capture the candidness and authenticity of special moments.

It wasn’t long before friends and family started taking notice of my amateur but rapidly improving body of work. As a favor to those closest to me, I would photograph weddings, newborns, engagement sessions, seniors and and just about anything else you can imagine. I started taking yearly Fall pilgrimages to the CO mountains to sharpen my landscape photography – something I still love to incorporate into my photography to this day.

In 2012 I finally encouraged myself to invest in my first professional DSLR and started charging for my services. The rest, as they say, is really history. I turned “pro” in 2012 with a focus on weddings dating back to 2013. Capturing special moments is my one true passion and I think you’ll see that reflected in my photography!
